Google Phone vs iPhone, which is better?

What do you think is a better phone, Google Phone or the iPhone? Both Google phone and iPhone have their own set of plus points and negative points:

Here is the laydown of the GI Google phone launched on Tuesday, September 23,2008

Five good things about G1, Google Phone

1] Capacitive touch screen: the GI has a capacitive touch screen just like the Iphone this means it is very responsive when you touch it

2] Easy to use Interface : the user interface is intuitive and dosent leave you wondering why did they do that : the layout is easy to understand

3] Having a keybord unlike the Iphone the Gi has a real physical keybord for typing out emails and messages

4] Great google services integration : it couldn’t be any more tightly knit. Gmail Google map with street view Google search You tube and others are built in the phone and gret work

5] Upgradeability: The android UI is open source and can be upgraded and added to overtime.

Five Flaws of Google Phone or G1
1] The hardware: The GI feels cheap the plastic aren’t high quality.

2] The camera: the GI may have a 3 mega pixel camera with auto focus but it doesn’t have a flash nor a vanity mirror it is a bit slow.

3] The keyboard :- the buttons are small and flat.

Both Google phones and iPhones are smart phones designed for users who want easier access to the Web than is offered by the current generation of RIM (RIMM) BlackBerries. Apart from the differences mentioned in the table above, Google phones and iphones have similar high resolution (320 x 480 pixel) color displays, motion sensors, support for GPS and Bluetooth 2.0, and platforms for third-party apps. Both share some of the same flaws — both are locked to their respective networks, both do not have the video recording capability and full cut-and-paste text editing, apart from the ones mentioned above.

Tools and software to speed up your computer performance and create space!

Tweak UI:
Here is a Microsoft utility which is called the ultimate user interface (UI) tweaker for XP.This utility will let you twist,over-ride and even manipulate the way your Windows interface should appear. An indispensable tool that offers multiple UI tweaks under a single interface

Free Commander
Free Commander is a simple, user-friendly alternative to the standard Windows file manager. Here you can find all the necessary functions to manage your data stock. The efficient thing about this is that you can use this utility on a USB pen drive and you take it without you to take control of any computer that catches your fancy.

Double Killer
A disorderly, messy hard disk can slow your computer down, and what adds to the mess is duplicate files that hog space for no reason. This ‘double killer’ utility finds out duplicate files and removes them leaving you with just one file.

Task Shuffle 2.2.
So you think the Windows taskbar controls you? Here is one utility that will let you turn the tables. It lets you shift the buttons for open applications anywhere you want on the taskbar, or group open documents together. By the way, it works for all Windows version even the ones back to Win’ 95

Pistachio is another utility that could come helpful enough to customize to your style of working. This background utility called Pistachio minimizes windows to the tray, snaps them together as you drag, and disables specific keys (such as the numlock key) if you like. It also give statistics on how much your use the keyboard.

Fragmentation of the disk is a menace that slows down your computer. This utility can clean up the mess; it not only defragments your hard disk but defragments individual files. If you’re unsure about what needs defragging, it also gives a list of files that need it.

If your hard disk seems totally filled up and bloated, and you have no idea what exactly is taking up all that much space, here is something you should look at. Short for Windows Directory Statistics, this program shows your hard drive’s directory in multiple views, some resembling Windows Explorer—files represented by 3D boxes in full color. You will definitely come to know what the items that are clogging space are.

We knows that there are quite a few useless programs that come pre-installed with your Windows, which end up eating plenty of CPU cycles. You can use the WinPatrol mascot to keep a sharp eye on your computer. It gives you warning on new programs that plan to run at start up and also warns you of any system changes. Trust winPatrol to increase the boot-up speed.

Absolute Uninstaller
You might have uninstalled a particular program, but unfortunately there are still fragments lying here and there, clogging space, an absolute waste. One way to be sure that a program is all gone is the absolute uninstaller. This replaces the default Add/Remove Programs control panel in Windows, looks for extra stuff to delete after an uninstall (such as Start menu entries and useless Registry keys), and even, does batch removal of multiple programs at one time.

Eraser: Eraser is no Arnold Schwarzenegger but works just like him. With more and more modern recovery tools, it can be tough to get rid of an old computer without making sure the hard drive is wiped clean. You will not have to reformat it, but also erase date by overwriting disk sectors umpteen number of times. Open-source Eraser that fits a USB drive is your best for total removal of data.

Google Desktop
If you think searching files on your computer takes an eternity, the relatively known Google desktop can come to the rescue. Apart from just the ‘search’ Google Desktop indexes all of your data files—including instant messages and emails—so you can find it fast. The interface includes multiple search-box configurations and an advanced search option.

Chrome browser review, Google Chrome review

Before doing the review of Chrome browser, we need to understand that Google likes to keep thing under the wraps and bring out the secret in the open when you least expect it. Well, that is exactly what Google did when it launched its own web browser, Chrome. Google’s Chrome browser launched on September’ 08, has been initiated to challenge the might of Microsoft Internet Explorer.

As of now, Chrome browser is modest to the hilt, with no menu bar, no status bar and just one toolbar. In other words, less mess! To open a new tab, you need to press Ctrl+T and if you want to go to a new window, simply press Ctrl+N.

The address bar of the Chrome browser is such that if you type, a set of suggestions appear quickly below a list picked not just from the pages that you have surfed, but also from bookmarks, popular websites on the genre that you are searching and other search suggestions. Chrome also like Firefox, auto-imports stored passwords, bookmarks and history from your old browser.

On the startup page, the chrome browser displays pictures of nine small web pages, which display the sites that you frequently visit. This page also gives the list of most recently visited websites and search options. Another interesting part of the Chrome browser is that you can download files quite easily. There is a status button at the bottom of your browser windows and you will not find a download window blocking your view. All in all, the Chrome browser is faster than Internet Explorer but it is not as quick as Mozilla Firefox. Chrome browser is now in its testing phase in more than 100 countries, and future months will see a lot of changes and positive user-friendly modifications.

Ten ways to improve the speed of your computer system

1.Let your PC boot up completely before you start with any applications.
2.Do not set huge file size images as your wallpaper. Refrain from keeping a wall paper if your PC is low on RAM (less than 64 MB).

3.Do not clutter your Desktop with a lot of shortcuts. Shortcuts aparts from looking tacky can also take up RAM. Every shortcut on the desktop consumes upto 500 bytes of RAM
4.Empty the recycle bin frequently. The files are not really deleted from your hard drive until you delete the files from the the recycle bin.

5.Delete the temporary internet files on regular ocassion.

6.Refresh the desktop after you close or shut down application. This will take care of any unused files from the RAM.

7.Defragment your hard drive once every two months. This will ease up a lot of space on your hard drive and rearrange the files so the applications runs swiftly and efficiently.

8.Always make 2 partitions in your hard drive. Install all large Softwares (like Photoshop, huge games, 3DS Max etc) in the second partition. Windows tend to use up all the available empty space in C drive as virtual memory when your Computer RAM is full. So strive to keep the C Drive as empty as possible.

9.While installing new Softwares disable the option of having a tray icon. The tray icons consume available RAM, and also slow down the booting of your computer Also disable the option of starting the application automatically when the PC boots. One can disable these options by going to Tools or preferences menu in your application.

10. Protect your computer from dust. Dust causes the CPU cooling fan to clog and slow down which heats up the CPU and affects the processing speed. Make use of compressed air to blow out any dust from the CPU.

How Your Mobile Phone can Help you in emergencies

There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies. Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it:

1. Emergency

The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile; network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out.

999 for UK.
100 for India
911 for US. Actually 911 can be dialed on all phones

Also in Australia , the Australian emergency number 000 can be dialled whilst your mobile phone keyboard is locked. This is another reason why 000 receives so many false emergency calls!

2. Have you locked your keys in the car?

Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their mobile phone from your cell phone.

Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote" for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).

Editors Note: It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a mobile phone!"

3. Hidden Battery Power

Imagine your mobile battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370# Your mobile will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your mobile next time.

4. How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?

To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone!:

* # 0 6 #

A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. When your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.

Not only the above, but also in Australia your stolen phone is added to a "Stolen Mobile Phone" database, so if your phone is found later on it can be returned to you

Test Your AntiVirus Software, Antivirus software test

Creating A Test Virus:

Have you ever doubted if your anti-virus software is actually working? Would you like to see what happens when it detects a virus? Let us take an antivirus software test that doesn't need you to have a real virus.

First, open Notepad. Then copy and paste into it the text on the line below. (It must all be on one line.)

Then select File, Save, select All Files for the file type, then save the file as

Your anti-virus software may stop you from saving the file as, which is an indication that it is working effectively. If your antivirus software doesn't raise an alert, try scanning the folder where you saved To see what happens if you try to run a file containing a virus, double-click to open it.

The file you have created is completely safe. It is not a virus. It is a standard
antivirus software test file developed by the European Institute for Computer Anti-virus Research (EICAR). All anti-virus products are programmed to detect this file as if it was a real virus. Therefore you can safely exercise it to test whether your anti-virus software works, without being afraid of whether it will actually harm your computer.

If your anti-virus product should fail to stop you from running the file, it will just display the text "EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE" in a DOS box. No damage will have been done, but you should perhaps consider using a better anti-virus product or antivirus software, because if it had been an actual virus, your computer system would by now be infected!
